When Acne is Cleared Up Can I Stop Using Medicine |
This is a personal choice dependant on several issues. First of all if you are taking more than one medication for acne management it is suggested that you discontinue use of one at a time.
Another suggestion is that you seek the advice of a dermatologist before stopping any medication. The reason for this is that if you stop taking medication too soon you could have another flare up shortly after making it necessary to begin taking the medication again. The best course would be to continue taking the medicine to be sure that the acne really is gone.
When taking medication it is important to remember that some medications require that you take it all to maintain the best results. Stopping too soon can provide temporary relief but can also defeat the purpose in the long run sometimes resulting in having to take it twice as long in the end.
This is especially true of prescription medications as they are usually much stronger than medicines you get over the counter making it even more important to follow the specific directions of the prescriber to obtain the best results from it. |
