Azelex Cream is composed of azelaic acid 20%. Azelaic acid is as an inundated dicarboxylic acid. HOOC-(CH2)7-COOH is its structural formula. Its chemical name is 1, 7- heptanedicarboxylic acid, the empirical formula is C9H16O4 and its molecular weight is 188.22. The inactive ingredients of Azelex Cream are glycerin, cetearyl octanoate, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, cetyl palminate along with cocoglycerides, propylene glycol, PEG-5 glyceryl stearate and purified water. Azelaic acid is a human nutritional constituent without carcinogenic potential.
According to animal studies, if you are using Azelex Cream, there is no unfavorable consequence on the fertility of the animals. As far as teratogenic effects are concerned, till now it has not yet been observed. However, in the case of pregnant women, studies have not yet justified any benefits from this cream. When Azelex Cream is used by a nursing mother, some extra care should be taken and a medical assistance must be taken while using the cream. The effectiveness and the safety of this medication have not yet been established for use in the case of children less than 12 years of age. It is only for the dermatologic use. Ophthalmic use of this cream needs to be avoided at all costs.
