Birth control pills are often a helpful medication for women in treating acne, this is the type of acne that is caused by hormonal changes during the monthly menstrual cycle. The birth control pill used along with spironolactone is effective in treating acne outbreaks.
Acne that is caused by hormonal changes can become problem acne when not treated and the ability of the birth control pill is able to balance hormones, known as androgen. The androgens are what can stimulate the oil glands which are what can clog the pores when mixed with shedding skin and when filling the pores with oil it can cause blackheads.
The use of spionolactone is not possible for all acne sufferers to use, as it can have side effects such as headaches, fatigue, and other problems for those taking the medication. In some acne cases it also is not effective in reducing the blemishes. |
