What About Blackheads and Whiteheads? |
Blackheads and whiteheads are a part of the acne process; they are caused by infected hair follicles and are known as comedones. The blackhead is a mixture of oil and trapped skin cells that are in pores open to the air. White heads, on the other hand, are not open to the air and covered with the epidermis.
There is no specific age group that is affected by blackheads or whiteheads more than others and in many cases the more severe acne is the more of these will be present. There are ways to extract these safely from the skin without causing further irritation that will cause a breakout; these are both home remedies and ones that can be purchased.
Treatment of black or white heads should always be done carefully and safely, with as little irritation to the skin as possible to avoid not only increased acne, but also to avoid scarring. |
