What are Boxcar Acne Scars? |
The boxcar acne scar is a type of scarring that can appear after having severe acne and will have the appearance of large pores or depressions in the skin. This is a form of scarring that does not lessen with age, but often appear deeper as a person ages and the skin becomes less tight.
The boxcar depressions are in most cases on the cheeks and close to the nose area where they can be embarrassing and can cause a person to be self conscious. It is possible to treat this kind of acne scarring with the use of laser surgery and in some cases dermabrasion. Other types of treatments like over the counter scar reducers will not have an effect on the depth of these scars and will take professional treatment to remove the deepness of the boxcar scarring, as the topical treatment does not have the ability to change these scars. |
