Caring for the skin when fighting acne must be done daily or the pores can become more clogged and more infected. Part of the cause of acne is due to shedding cells that become clogged in the pores. These cells then mix with the over production of oil that is going on deep under the skin in the sebaceous glands, these accumulate in the pore and cause what is known as a soft plug.

As the plug enlarges it can break the wall of the hair follicle and this will allow more oil to seep into the follicle and this can cause a hard plug, meaning it can become a blackhead as the oil becomes exposed to the skin and it also means in some cases infection which turns into a blemish is possible. The pimple can occur due to mixture of the soft plug with Propionibacterium acnes, which is the bacterium that causes acne outbreaks.
