Can Botox Help Clear Acne? |
Recent research was done by Dr. Anil Shah about the use of Botox as a viable treatment for acne. The September 2008 issue of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology published the results of his research. It reveals that Botox can reduce the excessive release of oil by the sebaceous glands in the pores of the skin and thereby reduce the occurrence of acne. It works by blocking the chemical acetylcholine in the dermis of the skin.
Botox is a substance that is injected into the skin to relax the facial muscles and is also now known to relax the pores. It must be injected by a licensed dermatologist and is a very expensive treatment for acne.
A new technique called intradermal Botox is used now to successfully treat cases acne. It is mostly used on large blemishes and to decrease the amount of oil that is produced in the sebaceous glands.
Doctors first began to notice that there was a reduction in pore size when they were treating people with Botox for wrinkles. Plastic surgeons claim that it gives the skin an overall matte finish and greatly enhances the look of one’s skin. |
