What is Dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is one of the treatment methods that is used for reducing scarring from acne and is a process that is a basic sanding of the skin. This is done by removing the superficial skin, which will allow the healthier skin cells to be on the surface and this will result in smoother and tighter skin with reduced acne scars.

The tool that is used to do the dermabrasion process is a motor driven burr that whisks across the skin removing the outer layer. This type of treatment is able to reduce acne scarring by between 20 and 40 percent.

There are some disadvantages with dermabrasion and one of these is that while physically it is possible to return to work within three days, however the type of treatment this is will take seven to ten days of healing.  There is also the fact that this type of treatment does not always work satisfactorily when the acne scarring is deep in the skin or what is called ice pick scars.
