Dispelling Acne Myths |
There are many myths about acne and to list them could go on for many pages, while there are some that are heard over and over.
- Eating chocolate will cause acne. This is false, and research has shown that raw chocolate or unprocessed chocolate can actually be helpful in clearing the skin of acne.
- Makeup causes acne, this is also false, there are many cosmetics that are made for people that suffer from acne and will be labeled non-comedogenic. It is wise to steer clear of cosmetics and hair care products that are heavy and oily, as this can clog the pours.
- You will outgrow acne, this is another myth of sorts, while yes it is true most teenagers will outgrow acne, there is also the fact that acne can last for many people through their 20’s, 30’s 40’s and even into their 50’s.
- Exercise will help clear acne; this is a myth exercising causes the body to perspire and that along with hear and friction can cause acne flare-ups on the back and chest. It can also contribute to clogging pores.
- Sun clears acne, this has long been a myth that has been perpetuated, when sunlight can cause sunburn, it can be harsh on the tender skin that is afflicted with acne and it can help to clog pores.
