Are There Prescription Medications for Acne That Effect Birth Control Pills? |
There are many medications available to treat serious acne issues. Although nearly all medications have some sort of side effects it is not generally believed that these medications have any direct link to the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Some medications prescribed for other issues also have the side effect of changing your hormone levels making them beneficial in clearing up acne breakouts. One such medication is birth control pills.
Birth control pills have many known side effects one of which being their ability to change levels in the production of certain hormones. However this is not always a good alternative due to the other side effects that birth control pills can have.
Although many women choose birth control pills as a contraceptive due to their abilities to regulate menstrual cycles and balance hormone levels they can also have potentially harmful side effects such as increased risk of cancer and stroke as well as many other side effects.
For this reason you should always discuss all the possibilities with your doctor and never use birth control pills based solely on the information that it will lessen the occurrence of acne breakouts. |
