Can Growing a Beard Cause Acne? |
Experts say that growing a beard can cause acne and even make it worse. If you already have acne and you are trying to hide it by growing a beard, special care must be taken to keep dirt and bacteria from collecting in the pores and further inflaming acne outbreaks.
The reason a beard can cause or worsen acne is that sweat and oil can get trapped in the beard. This can lead to blocked pores and skin infections leading to acne. Ingrown hairs from the beard can also clog the pores and lead to infections from the oil and dirt trapped in them.
Men who grow beards should wash them with shampoos or other cleansers daily to keep food and dirt from lingering and to prevent the growth of bacteria. The bacteria will eventually cause infected pores and acne if not removed. A condition known as “Acne Beard” can also arise. This term refers to the area on the lower part of the face that is covered with acne or acne scarring caused by poor hygiene and a lack of proper caring for beards. |
