How Does Laser Surgery Help Acne Scars? |
The use of laser surgery to help reduce acne scarring, helps to reshape the scar tissue and at the same time reduces redness. This type of surgery is often referred to as reshaping; this is because of the ability to use lasers to change the scar tissue.
This type of surgery is done by using a beam of a laser which vaporizes the upper layers of damaged skin. While this helps to reduce scaring it is not a miracle surgery and can be a problem with some skin types, such as olive or dark skin tones, this is because it can increase the risk of pigmentation changes in the skin.
People that have taken accutane within 12 to 18 months and people that still have active skin infections are not candidates for this type of surgery in most cases. Anyone that has suffered from acne and chooses this type of surgery to reduce scarring will need to discuss if it is the right type of treatment for them with a surgeon before deciding that laser surgery is the proper treatment. |
