Are There Laser Treatments For Acne? |
For every cause of acne there are three times as many treatments available to cure or heal it. Some treatments are more effective than others and some are more permanent than others.
What treatment you choose should depend on the severity of the problem. Another consideration is how the chosen treatment affects you. Many people prefer laser treatments over topical or oral medications due to the side effects that some of these can cause.
There are typically two types of laser treatments. These consist of blue light therapy and smoothbeam.
Smoothbeam is a treatment in which a laser produces many pulses that target the glands that produce sebum which is the substance that causes acne breakouts. This treatment is also used to help diminish scarring. The downside to this is that it takes three or more treatments to see an improvement and the results are only known to last up to a year. Treatments are usually scheduled about three weeks apart. These treatments are also quite costly.
Blue Light therapy is less costly but also requires treatment more often. It is usually done in eight weekly sessions. The results from these treatments generally last anywhere from four to eight months. |
