Light therapy is a new procedure being practiced for the treatment of many different ailments. These ailments include, but are not limited to: acne, cancer, aging, and pain. The lights used are LED, or light emitting diodes, and they use different colored lights from the spectrum for different reasons. The main one that we know about it the white light that is used to grow plants indoors, but if we separate the spectrum into its individual colors, we can harness the healing energies of each one. For instance, red light can help with collagen production, which in turn can help with aging. It also will help reduce the inflammation associated with acne. Another color that is used is blue light. The blue lights kill the Propionibacterium, which is one major cause of acne. The light range is between 405 and 420 nanometers which are absorbed by the bacteria, and this in turn kills off the bacteria. After the bacteria are gone, your acne can clear up, but there may be some other cause for the acne that won’t be affected by this light spectrum. Light therapy isn’t as widely used as other more common treatments, but it has been found to be effective against acne and other skin conditions.
