It is possible for an adult to have acne whether or not they had it as a teenager, although it is often carried on from teen years through the mid 20’s for some people. Males that have severe acne, which can include affected areas on the body as well as the face, are more likely to suffer from adult acne. Women might not have acne until they are an adult and for several reasons might begin seeing acne break outs. This is due to hormones and the sebaceous glands, the stopping of birth control medication, cosmetics and other reasons that can cause an adult woman to begin being affected by acne. There are other conditions that can cause acne for women including pregnancy, menstrual cycles or ovarian cysts, changing of personal care products, and medications.
Adult males do not have the hormonal changes that women do; therefore males that have not had acne as a teenager usually will not suffer from acne as an adult. |
