There are many different types and forms of antibiotics that can be effective against certain skin conditions that your dermatologist may prescribe to you. The reason that they would use antibiotics, obviously, would be to kill malicious bacteria that are present in your body. Many rashes, acne, and other skin conditions are caused primarily by a certain bacterium, and the only way to get any relief is to remove that bacterium from your body.
This is where the antibiotics come into play, as they can eradicate the afflicting bacteria and clear up your skin condition. For instance, one of the main causes of acne is Propionibacterium, which is bacteria that grows in the pores of your skin, and a topical antibiotic can fight off the infestation. This, in turn, could help to clear up the acne problem that you have. It may not work though, simply because there are many different reasons that people get acne, and the bacteria may not be the only underlying cause. Your dermatologist may also prescribe you an oral antibiotic, which can take time to disperse into your body to be effective. Overall, skin doctors do use antibiotics, but they will try other alternatives if need be. |
