I Did Not Get Acne as a Teenager But I Am Now—Why |
The most common forms of acne are the types that strike most teenagers during or right before the onset of puberty. However there are many other types of acne and causes of it as well.
Acne that persists into adulthood is often more severe than the types that are known to afflict teens and in many cases is not limited to the face but may spread to other parts of the body. This type of acne is most generally found in males rather than females however it can affect both sexes in rare cases.
Another common cause of adult acne is the type that is often present in women right before or during their menstrual cycle. Certain medical conditions that are known to cause changes in hormones can be a cause of adult acne as well. Two medical conditions that are known to cause hormonal changes in women are pregnancy and illness or conditions affecting the female organs such as ovarian cysts.
Some medications can also be a cause of acne and likewise stopping some medications such as birth control pills can contribute to acne flare ups. |
