What Triggers Acne?

There are some well known triggers that can cause you to get an out break of acne.  Some of these include hormonal shifts in your body, your daily eating habits and your sleeping habits as well as poor daily hygiene habits.  People who are prone to acne can trigger a break out if they got to bed with wet hair because hair product residue can irritate sensitive skin.

Studies in diet and nutrition in relation to break outs of pimple, whiteheads and blackheads have been done that show a strong correlation between a diet that is high in carbohydrates and break outs of acne.  Eating white flour, white potatoes, white rice can cause an insulin spike and in turn trigger episodes of pimples and pustules on the face, head, neck and shoulders for some people.

A woman’s menstrual cycle and using oil-based skin care products can also trigger a bout of acne in women.  Using birth control pills can be another factor because they affect the hormones.  Young adolescent males and young adults find that wearing baseball caps and bike helmets can be a trigger also.  The reason for this is clogged pores from sweat accumulation under the hats or helmets.
